Meatless Farm Making Plant-Based More Sustainable with Lovingly Made Ingredients

At Meatless Farm, we often get asked about our plant-based ingredients, and now… we’re making our own!

In a bid to meet growing demand for plant-based food and to sustainably feed a growing population, Meatless Farm recently launched our ingredient manufacturing division Lovingly Made Ingredients (LMI).

Based in Alberta, Canada, LMI will work with contracted farmers to support the agriculture sector and sustainable farming practices in North America.

Production is due to start at the new 33,000 sq ft facility using innovative ingredients, equipment and processes as more and more of us switch to a plant-based diet.

Pulses, such as our hero peas – and other crops – will then be turned into textured proteins and used in the signature recipes of our very own plant-based range of products.

In dry form, textured protein can appear as chunks or shreds and provides great texture and high protein for cereals, snacks and toppings.

When hydrated, the proteins are perfect for use in plant-based meat alternatives thanks to their chewy texture. But that’s not all, they can also be used in snacks, soups, sauces, ready meals and so much more!

Chris Shields, vice president of manufacturing at LMI, said: “Sustainability, quality and transparency are woven into everything we do at Lovingly Made Ingredients. We love food, we love the prairies, and we want to get to know our producers and connect people with their food again.”

As well as working towards B-Corporation status after 12 months of production, LMI has a mission to offset their facilities’ carbon emissions to as close to zero as possible.

“I want us to be a force for good, not only for our customers but to the community, our team and to our primary producers. Our vision is big,” added Shields.
