6 ways to pimp up meatless burgers
With BBQ season on the horizon, we’re already looking forward to lazy weekends in the sunshine cooking on gas (or charcoal!) and serving up burgers for friends and family this summer.
There’s nothing better than a tasty, juicy burger fresh off the grill, and for those enjoying a plant-based diet our tasty meatless burger means you don’t have to miss out.
So, that’s the burger taken care of, but what about all the delicious toppings that you might want to add? Here’s seven great ways you can pimp up your meatless burger…
- Crispy aubergine ‘bacon’ – add a bit of crunch and a big hit of flavour to your burger with aubergine ‘bacon’. Simply marinade thin strips of aubergine in a mix of spices and oil (or maple syrup) and bake at a low temperature until golden and crisp.
- Salsa – make a refreshing salsa made from tomato, garlic, onion, chilli, lime juice, coriander and salt and pepper, or switch things up and by replacing the tomato with mango for a cool summer kick!
- Pesto & grilled peppers – enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean by making your own pesto in a blender with fresh basil, pine nuts, crushed garlic, lemon or lime, oil and seasoning. Add a generous dollop on top of grilled red peppers and think of dreamy days in Italy.
- Vegan coleslaw – at The Meatless Farm we love simple food swaps (our products are proof of that!) Whipping up a vegan coleslaw is as simple as swapping out mayonnaise for a vegan mayo of your choice and mixing in with all the sliced veggie goodness you wish.
- Guacamole – smooth, creamy guacamole – as spicy or zesty as you wish – is another fresh taste of summer. All you need is an avocado, tomato, half a white onion, red chilli, coriander, garlic, lime juice and salt and pepper. Whizz in a blender until you get the consistency you desire. Tip: Keep the avocado stone in the bowl to stop your ‘mole going brown!
- Pickled vegetables – pickling your own vegetables is easier than you think, and the possibilities are almost endless. Thinly sliced cucumber, ginger, red onion, gherkin or carrots are great burger toppings and add a satisfying crunch. Just add to a brine of equal parts vinegar (white, apple cider, white wine or rice vinegar) and water. You can then flavour the bring and pickles by adding garlic, chilli flakes, thyme, peppercorns and more!
