Get Fired Up! Top Tips for the Ultimate Summer BBQ

With the sun shining, it can only mean one thing: it’s BBQ season! To help you master the ultimate summer BBQ, we asked our in-house chef, Ben, to share some of his favourite tips:

  1. Get Creative! Try using our burgers to make Kofte or kebabs, simply mix the burgers in a bowl with a little harissa and chopped coriander. Or remove the skins from our sausages, then use the sausage meat, fennel seeds and chopped parsley to make meatballs.
  2. Stuff some long sweet peppers. Fry some of our ground in a little oil until nice and crispy, add some chopped garlic and fajita spices and stuff the peppers before grilling them on the BBQ.
  3. Impress your guests with the sides. You can cook so many amazing vegetables on the BBQ. Try grilling asparagus, or BBQing whole corn in the skins, then rubbed with vegan garlic better. Try sweet potatoes, pricked with a fork, seasoned with salt and olive oil then wrapped in foil and cooked on the edge of the BBQ for a few hours.
  4. Glaze your bangers and burgers. Try using different sauces and glazes to baste your sausages and burgers as they cook. We love a mix of maple and mustard.
  5. Spice up your life! Try re-seasoning the Meatless Farm burgers, empty the raw burgers into a bowl, spice with a drizzle of sriracha, harissa or a really good smokey BBQ sauce, then reshape them into burger patties and cook them over charcoal.
  6. Something sweet. Peaches and nectarine are now in season and grill beautiful. Make sure your BBQ grill bars are clean, half your fruit, drizzle with olive oil and BBQ over the medium/hot section of the grill. Serve with a spoonful of vegan yoghurt and some crushed vegan biscuits. They also work really well in a salad with baby leaves and violife ‘feta’ style cheese.
  7. Control your fire! You don’t have to have the BBQ raging across the whole grill, use a long set of tongs to (carefully) move the hot coals so you have a ‘hot zone’ and ‘cool zone’. This means you can move your food around depending on how quickly everything is cooking, helping you avoid tragic burnt bangers.
  8. The ultimate BBQ condiment has to be chimichurri. It’s dead easy to make – finely chop a handful of flat leaf parsley, mix with a clove of crushed garlic, a pinch of dried oregano, a splash of red wine vinegar, a good pinch of salt and a glug of oil. Add some chilli for a tickle of heat. This stuff will lived up any summer BBQ.

There you have it, Ben’s top eight tips for the ultimate BBQ. Now all that’s left to do is fire up the barbie and get grilling! Check out some of our favourite summer BBQ recipes below.
